Do You have a Biter?
ok i don't mean if u were ever bitten by your BP. i mean do u own a meanie, a danger noodle, a BP that is a regular biter?
i have 1 remaining biter in my brood – Tin Man, my Silver Bullet BP. he's always been a nervous nellie and even though i've tried to work w/ him w/ regular handling for over 2years now, he will still tag me given the opportunity. (lmao i think he likes it.) he even tagged Shadow his poss. gf, my big Super Cinny girl once during a picture session. SMDH.
i also have had other biters, but though handling and maturity, they've grown out of it. my former biters include a Pastave (she was the worse and i named her Madame Morrible the Horrible; very nasty from a baby through juvy), a Leo Pastel and Black Pastel Champ het Ghost. (all girl BP's) they grew out of it and thank goodness these are only BP's!
Whattabout u? So do u have a biter BP too? Maybe more than 1?

Got a hissy pissy girl but she doesn't bite, just makes a big show of being tough. One of my boys is a surprise biter, doesn't act defensive then bam - strikes. He seems to be growing out of it though.
Got plenty of other bitey snakes here so I'm perfectly happy with the beepers being calmer
Just another day with the ATBs (wrapped my hand in sweatshirt since I knew it was coming)

And my 17yr old corn will bite me any chance she gets, I love her so. I don't think it's mutual. XD

Miss Snow will bite if you are not careful. She is still young and I have avoided the actual bite to far. She did bite my girlfriend though. I hope she comes out of it. I use the paper towel trick. I offer it to her first then she balls up. Except for feeding days I tried to handle her at least 15 minutes everyday. She's come down a little bit since I put a plant in her enclosure. I think she feels safer hiding in the plant than in her hide.

I have never seen a corn snake bite anything other than a mouse. You must taste like mice. Just kidding.

Yes and no, do I get bit? Yes a lot, but not by any of my adults, just hatchlings I produce (Hondos being the worse).....the joy of breeding snakes

I have a bumble bee female ball python that was so aggressive when she was young she would snap at me so hard she would flip herself upside down almost every time LOL. She still gives me the evil eye but I've figured out that I can pick her up quickly and she just gets scared and balls up.
I also picked up a female clown this year, the breeder said it was his most aggressive hatchling. I could tell right away she was a little snapper, but right away I picked her up and handled her about two hours until she really mellowed out and started crawling all around me. Now she is a real nice snake. I'm convinced that you need to hold a mean snake for an hour or two, it lets them completely relax and get used to you and build trust. I'm not sure a quick 15 or 30 minute session is enough, it takes them that long just to relax. After that they need time to build trust. I also think it's best to handle them when they are young, it's easier to take a bite and the adrenaline rush is a lot less because you know they can't really hurt you.

Re: Do You have a Biter?
Well, I messed up the poll!
I was trying to vote on my phone, and hit that I used to have a biter, but she's nicer now. I meant to hit - no - I don't have a biter BP!
My BP, Shayna, has never bit anything other than a rodent. She eats F/T, and usually won't even strike at the rats!
I've had her for 5 years and she is about 5 1/2. She is the absolute sweetest thing. When she got settled after I first got her, she hissed at me, twice (1X on two consecutive days) when I went to pick her up (she was little, about 200G). I called her bluff, picked her up, and she hasn't hissed, bit, etc. ever since.
My corn snake, Figment, is also a charmer. He's totally chill and has never attempted a bite on anything other than a mouse. Even when he was 9G, he was a little quick for a few seconds, but calmed right down, and has been awesome ever since.
Now, Behira, my BCI, is also a sweetheart, but has a VERY strong feeding response. I've had her since October, she is 2 years in June, and she nailed me last month. Total feeding response. She was hoping I was a nice and juicy rat. As soon as she realized the mistake, she let go, and let me pick her up. We use a hook now, just to let her know it's not feeding time, and that works great. She does not have a mean or defensive bone in her body. Total puppy dog once she knows there is no food.
Anyway, sorry for skewing the poll!
Administrators/moderators, can we fix it? .

My spinner female got me with a food response bite a few weeks ago. Derpy thing ignored the f/t rat on the tongs and grabbed my hand. Normally she's a sweetheart but she wobbles, and when she struck she zigged instead of zagged.
I only have one that is a known biter, even at 6 years old she's still very defensive and likely always will be. If you're careful you can pick her up but she never relaxes while in-hand, and she snaps at movement and shadows.

Of all 11 snakes I own, only one is a biter, my highway cali king, Andromeda. She will come at anything that moves with her mouth wide open, hoping it is food.
