Got off on the wrong foot

Temp gun came 115 on the top of his warm side hide but 92 on the floor where he/she roams the tank 75 on the cool side. The top of rhe hid i closer to the che. Should i not consern myself with that temp on toap. Now i want to run a thermostat probe inside the hide and see what the temp is in there

1. As stated, nothing over 95F in the tank, period.

2. Hot side/spot - aim for 87-89F

3. Ambient about 80-83F - 92F is too hot for anything but hot side, and even then, it's too hot for comfort, but not dangerous.

4. Cool side - 78-81F, closer to 80F is better. I wouldn't want anything cooler than 78F or so in my tank.

5. Use the temp gun to see temps inside the hide - lift it quickly and hit the ground with the temp gun. Or, if a smaller hide, just put the temp gun at the hide opening, and shoot in.

6. Ambient temps I use both the temp gun and a thermometer. Most important is temps where the snake is.

7. Is it 75F before or after the mist comes in? If the mist is making it too low, as mentioned, reconsider that aspect, and simplify the cage.

8. I wouldn't put a thermostat probe inside the hide. As mentioned, the thermostat may read X, but the actual temp at the surface will be Y. You have to calibrate. Where my probes are on the hot side of my 6X2' tank, about 7 inches off the ground, and below the RHP, but above the UTH, they read about 84F. The temp on the UTH on the ground is 87-90F with an average of about 88F.

Even when probes are wedged between UTH and tank (like on my cool side), the probe will often read a different temp than inside the tank. Adjustments must be made.
