Silk plants from craft store VS Zoo Med/Magnaturals, etc.

If I were looking to add some plants - I've been only looking at fake plants from reptile stores, but after some browsing around on here, I've seen a couple recommendations to use silk plants from a craft store.

Is this safe? - obviously if they are clipped and there is no sharp ends, etc. Do they have to be specially sterilized?

I love the look of some of the Magnatural line but obviously the cost is high. However, I'd rather spend more than risk an injury.

I get all my fake silk / plastic plants and foliage from the local pound /dollar stores and occasionally florist shops ...

As you say you'd have to check for sharp edges and small "loops" where they can get stuck ...

Also I add branches and bark pieces gathered from the local woods and parks ..

I got mine from the craft store. Joann's has a great selection. I just dipped them in soapy water, swished them around, rinse and let air dry before putting into their enclosure.

I've also found some good deals at Wal-Mart in the craft section. Kinda hit or miss, but I check occasionally when I'm there and have had some good luck.

Like you said, watch for sharp edges, wires, etc...

As for pre-use cleaning: I do the same thing I do when I do full enclosure cleanings. I fill my kitchen sink with hot, soapy water and soak for a while. Then rinse thoroughly and air dry.
