He's gorgeous! I love his markings and especially his tail! What are his genetics? I'm guessing he must have some Anery in him?

Thank you!!!! He is anery het for sharp and hytec if I remember correctly (his papers are in the filing cabinet and I'm out of the house), but he's just my buddy so I highly doubt I'll ever breed him. I'm smitten with the little lad!

He's not small for his age at all. Depending on how you're feeding him, I wouldn't worry about his growth rate.

This is my 2 year old male, he's only 3', maybe a few inches shy of 3'. My females are going to be 3 in June, and they're only about 4' or under. Boas grow very, very slowly when they aren't being overfed.

They either are or aren't anery. It's possible this boa is an anery, as he displays the characteristics of the morph, but he can't have "some" anery.

He'll be 2 in May and I'm a slow feeder. He's just now bumped to smalls for the last couple meals every 2 weeks. His girth has began to fill in and I expect some length to add on with the next shed. I don't expect him to be large at all. I was a bit surprised at the slow growth. Everyone tells you and you read it everywhere, but it's just not the same til you witness first hand I think. Oddly enough before I got him and really increased my preparation research I thought boas were these huge snakes and I was taking a brave leap from my bp lol! He's healthy and that's all that matters!

I too recently got a BCI, Behira. She's a female Ivory Ghost, het moonglow, born June 2016. I have zero plans to breed though.

I did a lot of research as well, and totally agree that slow growth is the way to go! Behira is about 700G now and is eating small rats (I give 60-70G rats even though she could easily eat bigger) every two weeks.

I love her personality, beauty, and it's cool that she will be a big snake, without being crazy huge!

As stated earlier in the thread, males (usually) are quite a bit smaller than the females. More like a large BP female, or bigger, but not monsters. I have heard that males are usually 4-6FT and much less girth than the females who can more easily get 6-8FT. It does take a long time to get there if you are feeding properly though.

I posted the other day in Behira's thread that I saw an adult female BCI up close for the first time the other day. Not sure how she is going from 700G to 5,000-7,000 grams, as she doesn't seem super small now, but I know she will. Good thing I have the proper enclosure already and we are growing together. This way, it's not like I just brought home a 7FT snake. We will know each other pretty well when she is a big girl.

Still I had never considered a Boa because I heard they got huge. Yes, BCC's can be 10FT more easily, but BCI's not so much. I wanted a male, but Behira stole our (my fiancé was involved in picking her as well) heart. Males seem to be more manageable size wise, but Behira is a total puppy dog, so not too concerned. The biggest snakes I had before Behira were a female BP and male corn snake. So, big jump!

He's most likely just anery het sharp. Hytec is hypo aztec, both morphs are visual in the heterozygous forms. Since he isn't visually either hypo or aztec, he isn't het for either. Sharp is recessive, though, so he certainly could be het Sharp!

He is kinda girthy, which is why I mentioned the feeding schedule, his sides have gotten a bit pudgy. haha Space his feedings out like you are now, and he should trim out.

They can definitely appear to be large snakes if you aren't used to their girth. My biggest female is 7', and she looks much bigger than my 9' retic, but she's definitely a few feet shorter, just much girthier. She's still manageable by one person. It took me a little bit to get used to her extra weight, but now I can handle her just as easily as my smaller snakes.

The growth rate can be impacted greatly by feeding regimens. My boas nowadays grow pretty slowly, but I was accidentally power feeding my first boa, so he was only 2.5' at 1 year old, but was just over 5' by the time he turned 2, and reached 6' around the time he turned 3. He grew another half a foot over the next year, and is currently about 6.5'. He's been showing some issues recently that the vet seems to think could have been impacted by his power feeding earlier in life, but we really don't know what's going on. He's the only snake currently showing health issues.

I will have a Motley at some point when i'm ready to get started on an Eclipse project. My bad y'all I finally got a chance to check the genetics on Ludo. His dam is a hytec sharp and sire is anery het sharp. I knew the words were there I just got them backwards.

If OP's boa is an anery, it's a single gene anery potentially with recessive genes, but there are no other visual morphs. If he was an anery combo, you would say he has anery, or is an anery combo. When you say there's some anery, you're implying that anery can be muted through breeding, and it cannot. It either is or isn't. They aren't like dog breeds, where if you mix other breeds into it, it starts to look less and less like the original breed. An anery is always an anery, it either is or isn't, there is no "some anery." They can have anery in them or not, but they can't have some.

Thanks! My motley is actually an anery motley, and he's even poss het Kahl! I'm looking forward to some moonglow or snow mots in the future.

Females definitely take longer to mature, I believe dwarf females are ready to breed by about 4 years old, while my Colombians will take 5-6 before I'm comfortable enough to breed them.

Ah! That makes sense! Then he isn't an anery, unless his mother was also het anery. Anery is recessive, so both parents must carry the gene. If his mom wasn't het anery, he's a very nice, gray normal.

Mama is het anery. It really doesn't matter either way to me, I just like snakes. I have a few and a small list of others I want to own because they're interesting and beautiful. I appreciate learning from and observing them as well as handling and I take pride in my fastidious care of my animals so that I can provide the safest and "happiest" life possible for each of them. As for why I chose a morph when I couldn't even recall the genetics he possesses I thought he was a pretty baby so I picked him. I'm still new to all this anyway and it'd be wayyyyy irresponsible for me to mess around with breeding until I have much more experience under my belt. I just wanted to share a few photos on occasion where people might actually enjoy them... my friends and family aren't snake fans and they're getting tired of me showing them my "baby pictures" lol
