Those temps are fine. How are you measuring temps? Not sure what you mean by absolute max, but the upper limit of hot spot is usually recommended to be 92F.

I use a digital thing called acurite it dose both temperature and humidity and a temperature gun.

I would say you don't want anything over 95F. That would be the hottest you would ever want a hot spot to get. Having said that, even if your hotspot got to 93-95F, and your cool spot was still 82F, your BP would likely just chill in the cool spot instead. Reptiles get hurt often when there is no gradient or there are extremes and they must pick too hot or too cold.

Over 97-100F you are asking for trouble anywhere in the tank. Hotter than that could be deadly.

Your temps sound about right. Could be a degree or two hotter on the hot side hot spot and the cool side could be 1-2 degrees lower, but I am splitting hairs.

Ambient temps are about 82-84? The cool side being the coolest spot?

I wouldn't mess with it, especially if the BP seems to be doing well and is eating.

How are you taking the measurement?

The temps should be on the ground, where the snake is/can be, with a temp gun preferably.

If it's a 2 foot tall tank - the temps at the top don't matter as much as at the substrate, for example.

I keep hot spot under 91. Thermometers can be 3* off so id rather it not be 94*.
On another note I know of very few Ball Pythons that will use a Hot Spot higher than 88/89.

Nothing in my BP enclosure ever gets over 90.

In reading my response, I think I might have been confused by the question.

To clarify, you do not want anything much above 90F if at all.

You asked the hottest it "should" be and I saw "could" be.

My apologies. I was giving a worst case scenario where temps were higher than you wanted, but room temp increased, etc. causing things to elevate.

I agree with everyone else here; 90F should be as high as you go.
