Thermostat + heat tape, bubble wrap
hello,
I was wondering, what temperature do you guys set up the thermostat to reach good hot spot in tub?
I am still trying to test it out, it has been like 30 minutes set to 95 degrees, probe right on the heat tape. I measured with temp gun under the paper towel bedding I am going to use and it reads around 87~88.
Is 30 minutes not enough time to get exact temp of the hot spot?
What temp do you guys set it to have good hot spot?
Also, I was wondering if any of you guys used the bubble wrap the cover the windows of the room. I have pretty big window, and I feel like it could possibly affect the room temperature. My girlfriend uses bubble wrap to cover window and she says it gets pretty warm. Any experience with you guys?

What temp? Whatever gives you the proper hotspot. Lol! With everybody's conditions being different there is no set answer.
As for me I keep mine at 85 to 88 so if I was you I'd be happy.
I've never covered my snake room windows, other than the wood blinds that are hanging.

wait 85~88? is this because your room is already hot? lol I thought heat tape would transfer less heat than its actual surface temperature to the enclosure.

No, just my preference.
An air temp between 75-85 and hotspots at 85-88 is what I shoot for.
My room is heated with a oil filled heater and heats the room between 77 and 82.
There are plenty of keepers that provide only proper ambient temps in the 80s with thriving collections. My snakes are just spoiled but if I cut off the hotspots most wouldn't even notice. Many never use them. Even my arboreal snakes hardly ever coil under their rhp.

Re: Thermostat + heat tape, bubble wrap
I am now concerned about the hot spot...
I am using a paper towel as substrate. I just started running my set up couple hours ago, and thermostat is set at 96.
My concern is that, when I use temp gun to measure hot spot, below the paper towel, I read about 91 degrees. When I measure on the paper towel, it gives me 82. Am I suppose to make the temp above the paper towel 90~ish? because I heard someone saying that I need to measure below the substrate. Also, I don't even know if I am measuring proper temp of under paper towel because it is a tub and visible through. I can see heat tape and when I point my gun at that thing, I feel like it is measuring the heat tape, not the floor temperature.

sorry, haha,
So, doesn't matter if paper towel reads 80 or w/e, the actual surface of the tub matters right? Maybe I didn't run it longer.
should I remove the tub from heat tape and measure it? since it is also pointing at the heat tape with see through tubs.

The tstat should be reading the heat tape temps. You can double check it if you want but I don't. I check the actual surface the snakes will touch. That's what matters.
When I can I'll have a new cage set up and running for a few days before any occupants move in so I can track and check the temps.

Is it not safe to attach the heat tape directly on the bottom of the tub? And probe under heat tape? Was thinking if no air gap between tub and heat tape would help to get good temp/accurate temp.

You can do it like you said above with no issues.
You can also put it on the heat tape if it extends past the tub edge any. It just needs to be on the heat tape.
