I shop once or twice a month, for some staple items.
As you got, the Grey Poupon is an amazing deal! I'll buy the double pack big kikoman soy sauce as needed (I make my own teriyaki sauce and do a chicken stir fry a few times a month). My staples are the fresh packs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts (usually 6 breasts per pack), the bacon (4 pack) and sometimes english muffins, tortillas and sliced deli meat. I pre-trim all the chicken and vacuum pack 2 breasts per since it's just me and my BF. Meat freezes really well and it's such a better deal than the grocery store. (for instance, 1 pack of bacon at safeway is $6.99-8.99, the 4 pack at Costco is $9.99). Also get the Kirkland TP and sometimes packs of gatorade or Nature Choice peanut bars.
As for the giant mayo bags and such, some small restaurants will get supply there so it works for them just fine.
Costco is tricky. Some items are a great deal as long as you'll use it before it goes bad. It's really easy to get a bunch of stuff that isn't needed and while they do have a lot of neat things, I usually avoid the non-food isles because that's how you end up with a bill over $100 really quickly.
