Yeah, I just noticed that too.
THE PROBE SHOULD BE TAPED OUTSIDE THE TUB, between the UTH and tub.
Never put tape inside the enclosure, and never place the thermostat probe inside the tub, where it could get moved and cause a big over-heating problem.

I just saw this thread... The thermostat probe goes OUTSIDE the tub, between the UTH and the bottom of the tub.
Only thermometer probes go inside the tub, since they just take temps.
Tape should never be anywhere near the snake, no tape should be in their enclosure ever, as it can kill them.

Re: heat mat troubles!
literally no matter what i tried i couldnt get the heat mat to stay properly with the probe in between the tub and the UTH. this is extremely temporary until i get a new UTH, which im fully open to suggestions as to which UTH to get and what to do in the mean time.

also, i was fully aware that it goes outside the tub, this is just a last ditch effort until i can get a new UTH or a solution.

You can temporarily turn the heat mat upside down so that the sticky part is not the part touching the tub. And then you can tape the probe to middle of the UTH (between the UTH and the tub), and place the tub on top of it.
This will get you a more even heating for the tub, but you will have to turn the thermostat temp up more, I'm guessing around 96 to get a warm side of 89~92 inside the tub.
As you probably realize, the sticky UTH are pretty annoying because the parts that stick to the tub create hot spots while the parts not touching are too cool. I don't know if other people have mentioned already, but you can get the ultratherm heat mats on reptilebasics.

I understand it's a good effort, but tape should not EVER go inside the tub, and having the probe inside the tub can cause massive heat spikes if the snake moves it, lays on it, or pees on it- which then defeats the purpose of having a thermostat.
ETA: I just realized, do you not have a snake yet? If not, there is no rush with setting it up incorrectly- you can just wait for the new UTH.

I just use blue masking tape to keep it in place. I'm sure packaging tape would also be fine, but just difficult to remove if you ever want to. People who think some tape on a UTH will melt or start a fire are forgetting that this is why they use thermostats... to keep the temps low LOL. Our own hands when warm are almost 100 degrees, so if our hands can't melt tape, the UTH won't melt it.
The ultratherms on reptilebasics list their dimensions, so you can just measure whatever size you need that fits about 1/3~1/2 of the tub.

You can definitely poke a ton more holes in your tub, like 10 on each side and see how it goes. But if your house/room is higher humidity to begin with, that may also be why, and it's fine as long as there is good ventilation in the tub.
What is the cool side temp?
You can use another UTH and thermostat set for the cool side. Or you can just heat your whole room to an adequate temp.
