prey size

i’m having trouble figuring out what size prey to get my snake next. he weighs 63 grams so 10-15% of that is about 9, so it makes sense for him to get a hopper mouse. however he is underweight because i had been feeding him pinkies (not knowing they were too small)and he’s had about 6 meals. (the last one was a hopper mouse)should i get him a rat fuzzy to bring up his weight? or would that be too quick of a transition from the hopper?

You need to feed what works mice or rats grams per gram is all the same the difference is when they become adults you are looking at feeding one prey vs multiple.

The problem with switching is that it can take time and tough love and at this weight it's not something you can afford especially since the animal was underfed, I would recommend to keep him on mice until he reaches at least 100 to 150 grams and then switch to rats, by that time a little tough love if done right when switching will not be a big deal.

will do. do you think i should get a small mouse tho to have him gain weight instead of a hopper, or would that be too much for him to take. a small mouse would be like 25% of his body weight

You are looking at a large hopper, weanling mouse nothing bigger than it's girth, percentage wise 15%

Good advice from above, i had to do the same thing with my first snake. Get some weight on the snake then i would switch to rats, just dont go bigger than the width of your snake as mentioned above. The important thing is your snake is eating at the moment , at that low weight just keep feeding what ever it will eat to get some weight on it.

Frozen to thawed? Weigh each one to see weight. Sometimes two hoppers will do and will hit the 15%. Depends on the mouse

I’ve been blessed that my BPs have been great at switching from live to f/t and mouse to rat. Consistent eaters (minus Ramsey) PIMA....lol

match his prey size to the thickest part of his body, when i got my BP he was only 112g and ate a live hopper no problem, 8 months later he is eating medium rats
