Small Question About Ball Python Biting
Hi,
this is probably not the best question but I still want to make sure. I personally don't handle my ball python much. If I do (when I clean his enclosure for example), he very gentle and nice. Now I've been wondering: I'm not afraid that he'll bite me. He has never tried to do so and even if he did I think I'll survive it. The thing I'm concerned about is whether biting me can hurt him.
How dangerous is it for a ball python to bite a human?
Thanks in advance.

We are some of the most infested animals on the planet. That being said snakes are not going to get much from us that can harm them and a bite isn't going to do anything pathogen wise.
That being said a full on bite and not a defensive strike can cause harm to them tooth wise if you were to pull away or struggle. The best thing you can do is stay calm and gently get them off you. If you react and pull away you can pull a tooth with you. Even that isn't that bad as they can grow teeth back.

1st, avoid handling your BP it appears in the S-striking pose. this will minimize the risk to u and your BP. if by chance u still get bitten, it will most likely bite and release. u will get a lil pin prick(s) from it's teeth. it doesn't happen often, but a broken tooth from a bite can cause an infection. so i guess u can look out for swelling an discoloration after a bite w/ a broken tooth.
now if your BP bites and coils, it's hungry. be careful uncoiling your BP to not harm it's body and when removing it's head from your hand or other body part. you're much bigger than it and tho it might have a forceful grip, be gentle unwrapping you BP.

It can be dangerous for him if he catches a tooth (or teeth) and your response is to jerk away, which is well within the range of typical responses to being bitten by an animal. Not only could you end up hurting his mouth, it would be reasonable to expect him to go flying across the room and end up with other injuries.
The good news is that you're in control of your own response to being bitten and thus largely in control of how dangerous it will be for him. The bad news is this response isn't the easiest to control.
