    For your future reference, scale separation is one hint of obesity, but so is a non-visible -- or even worse, dimpled -- spine. Ideally, the animal should have a bit of a triangle shape to its spine, at least enough you can easily locate the spine and follow it. Another is "tail suck" or "hips" where there will essentially be a muffintop around the cloaca that sucks in dramatically going past it.
