Reptile room heating
Have any of you used the small heaters that has a fire in it? However it's cool to the touch, to heat your reptile room? I can't for the life of me remember the correct name of them. However if you have, how did it do compared to the oil filled heaters that most of us use?

I don't know what kind you are talking about but fire needs a fuel source and thats pretty unnecessary for most people. Either that or it is electric and all it is is heating elements, no fire. Oil filled heaters are good for something that runs all the time, as it takes a while to get to temperature, but it also takes a while to cool down, so theres a pretty steady flow of heat overall. Theres very little difference between electric heating, just the method of throwing heat in the room.

I think he's talking about the electric ones that look like a fake fireplace. There's no actual combustion, the "fire" is for show.

Yes, you are correct. Yeah the flame is just for show and it's electric.

Re: Reptile room heating
I've used both a ceramic style and an oil filled heater - the oil filled got my vote - an electric fireplace is just an electric heating element - in theory it should work. As "loser" pointed out, the oil filled does take longer to heat, but retain that heat and offer a steady source and IMHO a more reliable heat source.
Good luck.
