How to wean a leo from tweezer feeding?

Hi all,
We've been getting on well with Hecate, and this past week we decided to start feeding crickets as well as meal worms. Long story short, when we got her she wouldn't eat unless offered with tweezers, which was obviously a lot easier to do with meal worms vs crickets. Now, whenever we put crickets in for her, she just ignores them and then all immediately jump away under her paper towel substrate.

Basically... how can I wean her from being fed with tweezers? And maybe also how do I stop them going under the paper towels?

Try using a feeding station with mealworms first. Depending on her reserves, you might have to wait a while for her to even get hungry enough to show interest.

I love leos!

First off, are you making sure you're dusting with calcium with D3? Not absorbing enough calcium will kill their appetite.

Other than that... there's not much you can do but wait it out! Set out a plate of mealworms and let her pick at it through the next two or three days. She'll learn where her food is when she's hungry!

Thank you both, I'll try putting out mealworms And yes, we've been dusting with calcium+D3 every other feeding, and it's generally always available to her from residue in her feeding bowl

I would recommend that you keep three dishes in your terrarium at all times. One for mealworms, one for water, and one for supplement powder. You do not need to dust your prey items. Your gecko will eat the powder on its own when it needs the powder. These are great bowls for leopard geckos.
