Herpstat settings

I have both heat tape and an RHP for my Herpstat 2. I just want to be sure the settings I have researched are correct.


Rhp- proportional setting?
Flexxwat undertank - dimming?

I use pulse proportional for the UTH to simply supply a pulse of electricity to the UTH to keep it always at temp while I actually want to restrict the voltage to the RHP yet still provide consistent heating. Honestly you can use pulse for both as neither are light emitting (dimming must be used for lights). I choose dimming for the RHP because if I have reached temp I am fine with it cutting power to 0 but I also want it to restrict down power as it comes up to temp. I treat dimming like a slow comfortable sunrise/sunset and pulse like a strobe light. Both do the job, it just comes down a personal choice and how you want heat to work. If you choose dimming for the RHP but you find temps are fluctuating too much, swap to pulse but for the heat tape, pulse is the way to go.

So when in doubt, use pulse. I don't want to over complicate your experimenting

Well I just got my setup going about a week and a half before you did so the least I could do. We both have backgrounds that apply to this in this household so we we tackled this from an engineering standpoint and it has worked so far.

Side note, the RHP probe might get a degree warmer than your desired setting. This is due to radiant heat feedback from the floor. Placement is everything so make sure you are aware when placing decor what comes down to heat also bounces a bit back up. I get a degree above settings because of how I set up my cage but it still produces acceptable ambient temps.
