My first post was me asking a question about moving my snake. Months later and that move will actually be happening this week XD It took a while lol. I had been lurking here for a good year just doing research and reading through posts, so my first post was a question that I couldn't find the answer to fully in past posts because it was for my specific situation. Then I started look at other peoples posts and I knew the answer to the questions so I thought I'd help, and I got hooked! XD

First off, I'm sorry if this question has been answered before but all the posts I could find on the topic were either for very short or very long distances.

I am moving from North Florida to Oklahoma soon and we are driving both a Uhaul and a car back. The trip itself is about 1,100 miles and if we did it all in one go it would take about a day to make but we may make a stop at a family members house half way. My ball python is pretty young, not a baby but juvenile for sure and was 110 grams the last time I weighed him. He will not be the only animal making the trip, there will also be a dog and two cats coming with us, the cats will be in carriers but the dog is too large so he will be free for the most part.

Our plan at first was to put the dog and cats in the car and have the snake go in the cabin of the uhaul but after reading up on the effect of vibration on them and how they should be kept mostly stationary for stress in not so sure how good that would be for him. I know shipping is also an option but I would have to ship him before I go so he would get there before me and all of his things, so he would end up just being in the box until I get there anyways.

So I guess my question is would he be okay in an insulated box or tub with heat pads for 24 hours or more,is there a better way to store him? And if so would it be better to have him alone in the uhaul where there will be more car moment and vibrations but not as big a risk of a dog accedently knocking into him or something or would it be better to take the risk of the car? Or would he just be better off being shipped and staying in the box until I make it there with all his stuff.

I just want to do what is safest for him.

Hey, everyone!

I'm looking for a nice quality female Enchi and a nice quality female Butter/Lesser, but either I'm being too picky or the 2012 girls have been picked through pretty well. My question is is it worth it to wait for the new 2013 clutches to have a chance at the picks of the litters, or should I continue to hold out hope for the possibility of some 2012s to become available? I'm in no rush by any means, so I don't mind waiting for a couple of beautiful ladies.

On that note, I feel like I've looked everywhere online, but I'm always open to new ideas. Anyone have any recommendations on who to look at/where to look for quality Enchis and/or quality Butters/Lessers in the relatively near future? I've been on KS pretty much daily and I usually hit up a few of the most common breeder's sites about once a week or so for updates - of which there haven't been many lately. I assume this is because most are waiting on 2013 clutches.

Just a few more newbie questions here, before I start buying setup things... Get ready.

Is there a reason why glass tanks need a heat lamp+heat bulb+undertank heater, but a Sterilite tub setup only needs one undertank heater?

Humidity in the enclosure is provided solely by the water bowl + contained enclosure?

Using a tank setup (vs. tub) seems like a much more costly option, though both options appear to work? Is the tank setup mostly just aesthetic?

I've read that BP do not need lighting, but would they be alright in truly 90% darkness all the time, just to be sure?

Also, just curious what the reason is for covering 3 sides of the tank? (I assume for the snake to feel secure)

And finally... not a question in the right forum, but could anyone recommend reliable breeders for getting a BP online? Or any known good breeders in the Orange County/LA area?

Hello all. I'm new to the forums. Have kept many snakes including BPs in the past but it's been a while. My current living arrangements allow me to keep snakes again so I'm jumping back into the game. Have been doing lot's of reading here as well as in other nooks and crannies on the internet. Wow. So many new morphs available these days! Opinions and practices have changed somewhat. Glad to be here! Looks like a pretty solid community.
