I would not get a hog as a second snake... the rear fanged venomous is a consideration (some people react more than others if bitten), but they are or can be very picky feeders. So picky, that I had to rehome my male to a person breeding live feeders. That said, they do have good personalities and they stay smaller than almost all boas and kings.
A dwarf locality boa would be a good choice, as they are hardy and have a good feeding response. Getting a male would ensure that it stays quite small. Other than Nicaraguans, the island boas (corn, caulker, hog) and Mexican boas (tarahumara is the smallest or Sonoran) are good options, as well as CAs (Central Americans) which are basically mutts from different Central American locations.
A Cal. King would also be an excellent second snake and they are out and about during the day, so a better "display" snake than a boa.
Thank you, again, for all the information you've gave. Where would you buy a Nicaraguan Dwarf Boa?
