    First ball python

So I just got my first ball python yesterday. He is a champagne cinnamon. He is very nice his name is Marcel I went to an expo to get him. I had the breeder's card but I left it on the table. (My mistake I'll try to find out who the breeder was soon) He has been hiding all day so that is a good sign and no mites so that's always good.

I will be taking more pictures of him later but I will leave him alone for now. The breeder had no papers so I'm guessing he's 2 to 3 months old.(Because he weighs 92 g)
They only thing I am slightly worried about is him not using his hides. But he is borrowing.

The hides look fine providing they're the right size - so not too large or too small .

I'd swap that horrid substrate ( aspen ) as it doesn't help at all with humidity , it gets mouldy quickly , looks unnatural just for starters .

I recommend dark coloured orchid bark for Royals / Ball pythons as it's basically the opposite to all the above IMHO

Brown hides are medium and I think he can fit in them nicely not to small or to big.

I'm just worried he will not get the heat he needs because he is not moving. Also I was a bit confused on spot cleaning I did it today but, I had to move him out the terrarium. Should I continue to do this or just leave it be?

BPs, especially males, seem to prefer their cold side and will only peek into the hot if the cool hide is too cold or they need to digest/shed.

Mine spends 90% of his time in his cool hide at 80F and rarely enters the other one. Know he does since he's fine, but.

Only time he was spending more time in the hot was when his overall ambient was a little too low for his tastes. Got it where he likes it now.
