    Its all about the husbandry...

Since keeping ball pythons for the last few years, I went from basic snake housing, barely knowing what I am doing with heat and humidity and hides...to PERFECTION!

•I have a rack system, measuring temps with an infrared temp. gun. Primary heating with a digital thermostat and probe powering UTH tape as primary heat for the "hot side" set at 88-92 fahrenheit range.

•Ambient temperature controlled by infrared room heater on a secondary thermostat for the "cool side" set at 78-82 F range.

•Humidity controlled by water bowl, and ventilation holes for tubs.

•Substrate of newspaper and cypress mulch to provide bedding and potty needs.

•HIDES that are big enough to fit, but small enough to feel safe. I have found that they prefer a CAVE-like hide as close as possible. I have tried every hide known to man, and they prefer very secure places where they can cram themselves and feel like nothing will ever find them there, with only one small entrance hole.

Since I have perfected my snakes environment, they are eating like champs, no eating problems for any of them. They are all shedding perfectly, they are growing and seem happy and secure.

Today I worked very long hours and started to worry a bit about my pets. I got home and checked them over.
•Flame needed fresh water as she got some bits of cypress in her bowl. No pee anywhere.
•Snappy is in blue, so I gave him a few spritzes of water on his substrate to raise humidity a little, and help his shed. I didn't check his hides for poo, as no smell and he was sitting ON TOP of his hide with blued over eyes looking very menacing!
•Chuck Norris looked happy, no poop or pee in hides.
•Godzilla was in her large hide (she is huge) as she always is, and I didn't check her as I recently cleaned for urine, and nothing smelled.
•Ragnarok same as above, he just ate a King's feast of 2 medium rats on accident, as he stole Godzilla's dinner after he ate his own! He will likely be in his cave for a couple weeks digesting this feast and getting fat.

Total time to check that snakes are all happy and healthy... 5 minutes. Good husbandry makes life for me and the snakes easy-peasy.
