Nose Bleed
My bp's nose started bleeding while she was eating her new mouse. It was the same size she has been having for a while and it actually a little small for her. She is around 7 months old now. Also ever since I got her I have been able to hear her breathing while handling her and don't know if the this is strange or not.

Are you sure the snake's nose was bleeding and it wasn't mouse blood? Is she eating frozen thawed?
As for the breathing, they do make noises, but if you're hearing it all the time or if it sounds like wheezing it maybe an RI. Have you noticed any bubbles or mucous in or around the snakes mouth? Have you noticed any streaks on the enclosure walls or on the water bowl or hides, decorations, etc...?

Re: Nose Bleed
She hasn't shown any other signs of being sick. I had no idea that the mouse blood could go out of her nose. I always watch her to make sure it's all ok and she has never done that before. I figured the breathing was normal, but when I see things like this it gets me really nervous for her and I didn't find anything else through research. Is it bad to have the mouse's blood come through her nose?

So no streaks anywhere? No bubbles or mucous?
And is the prey frozen thawed?

Re: Nose Bleed
Yea there's nothing and I feed her frozen thawed. I know this probably wouldn't make a difference but I have to be sure just in case, her mouse was noticeably warmer when I fed her today. Not boiling but would that have any impact on her?

Re: Nose Bleed
Boiling? How hot are we talking? Anything over 98 degrees will draw plenty of attention.

Re: Nose Bleed
Are you sure the blood actually came out of her nose, or was there just blood there that made it look like it had come out of her nose. If it just looked like it, it could have been blood from the mouse that got on her face and it looked like it came from her nose.

Sounds like a juicy f/t mouse squirted out your snake's mouth. Mine does that every once in a while and it's not exactly the most pleasant thing to see.

Re: Nose Bleed
No it was no where near 98 I just wasn't sure what temp would effect them. And yea I saw the blood swell up from her nose. She also struggled a lot more this time when swallowing the mouse. I'm just guessing this is because the blood was blocking her breathing.

She normally just puts her head up and forces it down but this time she was shaking around a lot. And no not just her pushing the mouse down with her body, but shaking and turning her head all around. I'm sure she was just trying to clear up the blood or something, but being my first snake I got really worried. I wiped the blood off immediately after she got the mouse down far enough and she has been acting normally since then. Thank you for answering my questions it really put my mind at ease.

You pretty much never have to worry about a snake breathing while eating. They have the most amazing built in snorkel in the animal kingdom.
