    She is a he

So my beautiful baby just shed (all in one piece, eye caps and all), and I got him out to look at him and hold him after two weeks of no interaction other than feedings. Well I read not too long ago about someone talking about how their year old male BP was 300 g, and someone else mentioned their female year old BP was 900 g. Well Calliope is only 315 g and his tail is too long to be a girl! Well I had tried sexing him before and the outcome was female but he was pretty young at the time. He was PetSmart snake so of course they didn't know the real sex and was sold to my sister (his previous owner) as a female.

Well he's at least a year old now, and have just had a bowel movement so I figured I could go ahead and check his sex again and right before my eyes, there it was! She was a he. I'm probably not gonna change his name, if I do it would be to Ka, or Calliborn but I like Calliope and I'm sure he doesn't care what I call him. This was simply an exciting moment and he is so beautiful that I want to share it with you all.

Beautiful Snake, Fox! Sometimes I believe we all get lost in the new morphs and mutations being produced almost daily, we forget the wild type/normal ball python is beautiful in its own right.
Congrats on learning the gender, he looks to be a happy/healthy boy from the photos.

I got him last year for Christmas, it was all I asked my mother for, so she got it. She was sad she couldn't afford anything but a normal, and had wanted to get me my favorite morph, a banana pastel, but she couldn't afford it (I think it was a bit rude of my sis to charge her for a Christmas present for me, she's not a breeder, just has a lot of snakes and needed to down size anyways but oh well) but I didn't care if he wasn't my favorite morph or anything (it's weird to say he), I still love him and I still think he is stunning.

Popping. I was scared cause it looks so uncomfortable to do such things to such a shy animal but I don't own any probes, and I was very careful. As soon as I was sure that what I was seeing was hemipenes, I let go of my grip and put him up so he could relax for a bit, but I was sure of what I saw and it all adds up. I still love him even as a male, and he's still pretty. My pretty boy.

Calliope doesn't really sound that feminine to me anyways, I thinks it's a very pretty name! You should keep it.

PetSmart told me Khaa was a male, got him probed by a vet, she said female ??, popped at full maturity, he's definitely male lmao! Khaa's name when I thought he was female was Karma.

    Re: She is a he

I told my sister (his previous owner) about it, cause I thought thought she might be interested in finding out, but she said that i must have done it wrong because she had Calliope probed by a breeder that had been breeding for 30 years and he said that Calliope was a girl, but I'm pretty certain about what I saw, so I politely explained to her that I saw it myself and it just doesn't add up that he would be a she. She digressed and said the guy could have been wrong since Calliope was so young at the time but that it was cool to know her first snake was a boy, not a girl.

Just to double check what you saw - the main difference between the female scent glands and hemipenes is the colour as well as the length.
