Any pet is a HUGE commitment, so unless you are responsible enough to live ON YOUR OWN, then perhaps just respect mom's wishes, and in the meantime focus on making money and having your own place, so you can get whatever pets you desire!
To me, you should be taking care of yourself before taking care of another life.
