    Tank size questions

Hi I literally just joined and I have no clue what I'm doing. I have a ball python her names mis and we just moved her into a new tank. It is a 55 gallon fish tank that we converted. One side is land and about a little less than half of the other side is just water. I was really psyched about the tank because I'm kind of poor and I got I for free but when I went to the pet store to get the stuff the dude yelled to me for making the tank. He said to try and fix my mistake I had to clutter it and I did. There are 3 branches in ther and one hide. Is there anyway I can get her to adjust easier? The humidity levels high too because of the water side. They're about %70-%80 but she's shedding right now. How do I help it feel like a home for her. She's only 1 year old or less but she's really thick around the middle and long. What can I do please help

Could you show us a picture of your set up? It's a little hard to visualize by the description alone and we can provide more help that way.

One thing for sure is your bp needs two identical hides, one for the warm side and one for the cool side. What are you using to measure your humidity and are your heat sources regulated by a thermostat?

I'm having a hard time picturing this setup. You're saying almost half the floor space is water?

I think you need to read the stickies on this forum about basic husbandry and setting up glass enclosures. One hide is definitely not appropriate and I'm just really confused/baffled by the half water thing...

OP if there is trouble on your end too, this thread highlights different ways to submit pictures

alternatively if you have a blog or other links to the picture that works too.

Keep in mind we are trying to help you. You need a water dish big enough for them to soak, 2 identical hides. Temps and humidity correct. If any of it is off your BP could stop eating or get sick. A lot of us use tapatalk app to post pics.

    Re: Tank size questions

I too am very confused about the half-water thing... ball pythons need a DISH, not a whole aquatic area. Like others have said, 2 hides at least and a heat gradient throughout the tank. The conditions she is in are NOT correct by your description. Also what substrate are you using?

Another thing, and please remember I am NOT attacking you, I just think this needs to be said. You should never buy and animal that you 1.) don't have the funds to take care of and 2.) don't know anything about husbandry wise. Research is a vital aspect of owning any animal, especially exotic ones like ball pythons where slipping up on something like temperature regulation could mean serious injury or even death. Please please PLEASE do as much research as possible ASAP, because I can tell you care for her and the last thing you want happening is illness/injury.

You need to give us a visual on this tank for us to help you further, but I will tell you some very basic husbandry (STILL DO RESEARCH. CHECK STICKY'S HERE TOO):

-Temps should be high 70's to low 80'son the cool side, and high 80's to 90 degrees on the warm side. This leaves a heat gradient of about 10 degrees, and your snake needs this to thermoregulate.
-your heat source should ALWAYS be regulated by a thermostat or rheostat depending on what you're using
-Humidity is usually in the 50's-60% range, I keep mind at high 50's to 60%. Raise the humidity when the snake is in shed... but 80 might be overkill. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-2 hides at least, one on the cool side and one on the warm side
    -a water DISH.
-Proper substrate. There are many options, so choose what's best for you. However, AVOID Cedar or Pine at ALL COSTS. Good examples are: Cypress mulch, Reptibark, Eco-Earth, Newspaper, Papertowel.

Again, we are trying our best to help you. Please do not become upset. Best of luck with your little girl, I sincerely hope you can find everything you need.

**NOTE: All temperatures are in Fahrenheit, and I myself am a beginner keeper. PLEASE correct any incorrect info and I will happily edit it.**
