Need advice!!
So my girlfriend doesn't like snakes but has no problem looking at them at the pet store but doesn't want one in the apartment. She made a deal with me that if I quit smoking I could get a snake but it would still bug her. And I wanna be sensitive to her feelings too. And it would have to be under 2 feet. Which isn't a problem since I want a male Kenyan sand boa ( only getting on average 16 to 18 inches). The funny thing is she said she wouldn't care if I got a tarantula though! Which I find funny since she thinks snakes are creepy. Basically just looking for some advice. Thanks to any responses.

What type of advice are you looking for? How to convince her to accept the snake or what?

Re: Need advice!!
You're a good man Crowley . It's very nice of you to be so considerate of your GFs feelings. My GF and I had a few rough patches when I first started keeping snakes a few years ago. I resorted to bribery and all sorts of Jedi mind tricks to get my first few snakes. You may have to double up on the date nights, foot rubs, and other treats but if you're super sweet she might give in if she sees how important it is to you. I don't have a lot of other hobbies so when she saw how passionate I am about my animals she enjoyed seeing me happy. After snake number four she finally surrendered and stopped griping and complaining altogether. I have 8 snakes now and have been true to my promise not to add any more critters until we move next year. I didn't say anything about new enclosures though . Best wishes and I hope your GF comes around.

Re: Need advice!!
Since she gave her blessings on the smaller snake - go ahead and get it. Use that time to get her used to having a snake in the house and she may just fall in love with it. Then you will have free reign to get all the snakes you want down the road. Heck she may even want one for herself. Seen it happen.

My girlfriend was also very reluctant to let me have a snake in the house. After being shot down a few times I changed gears and asked about a fish tank. She was fine with that and ended up getting "her own" tank that I take care of. After seeing how well I care for the fish, she was ok with ferrets. After seeing how well I take care of the ferrets she actually approached me one day and said I could get ONE SNAKE. She now actually enjoys the SNAKES, plural. She handles them occasionally. She's seen my passion with snakes and has said I can add even a few more when I can afford to add to the collection. However, if I buy another snake before putting a ring on her finger, I may be looking for a new home for myself and all my animals

Re: Need advice!!
Thanks to everyone who responded, much obliged! Gonna hopefully be ordering an Exo Terra 18inx18inx12in today! Think I'll name him Tremors. If you know sand boas that's hilarious! Quick question, I don't need the humidity it would provide but I kinda wanna use Reptile Prime substrate since it looks really natural and is dust free. Thoughts??
