Help! Cedar issues!

I need some feedback on how cedar is poisonous to snakes. Where I live there have been forest fires in the province over and our air has suddenly become really bad. I know where the fires are there have cedar trees and I don't know if this could affect my bp. If anyone could let me know that would be great. Ima concerned snake parent.

Cedar acts like a nerve toxin. I am not 100% sure but my best guess is that breathing cedar smoke would not be good but what the toxicity level is I have no idea. There is probably not much you could do about it other than put the animal in a closed environment with an air purifier.

Can you smell the cedar? The same phenols that create the scent are the ones that are highly corrosive to the lungs. Otherwise, it's likely that just the particulate matter in general from the smoke will be more problematic. Either way, closed environment preferably with an air purifier is the way to go. If the air in your house is still decent quality and you aren't smelling cedar, it should be ok.

There are certain compounds present that can cause damage to tissues and severe irritation of skin. There is also concern of cedar shavings containing oils that have been found to be potentially carcinogenic but that end of the spectrum may be a bit of a stretch.

I wouldn't worry too much about cedar on fire in a forest. If you are concerned, you can always run an air purifier in your snake's room.
