Cage size

Hi. I'm thinking about buying a BCI or a BCC. Would a 5,8×2,6×2,6 (1,80×0,8×0,8 metres) enclosure be big enough all the time ?
Heating would be with a radiant heat panel to provide a hot area and a cooler place in the enclosure.

For an adult boa with a maximum size of 8 feet (2,40 meters) that would be ok. The bigger is the better and it depends on how big the snake is. Not all BCI,s and BCC,s reach the same size as adults. So that size of enclosure would be the minimum size for 8 feet (2,40 meters) boa in my opinion. If your snake is bigger you will need a bigger enclosure.

So if the boa is 10 feet (3 meter)long or bigger, you are saying that an enclosure that is half of its length would work the extent of the snakes life? You are not storaging the snake rather providing a home for it. And boas are active snakes, they like to move and explore.

That size cage would be fine. It will take years for your boa to outgrow it assuming it ever did. A 10' boa is not common especially when you actually get a measuring tape next to it lol. And it would take 10 year or longer for it to reach that size assuming you arent power feeding or overfeeding it which 90% of people do anyways.

And not only are 10' boas rare, they are even more rare if they are BCI. The big boas are BCC and Peruvians to be specific. And BCC grow SLOW.

As for a caging general guideline, you want the minimum size of the cage to be length+width is equal to the length of the snake.

To give you an example, here are AP T25 cages next to T8 cages which are 4x2. The AP cages are technically 72x30x18 and I have them add a shelf which is 10" wide across the whole back of the cage which adds floor space so if you factor that in, you are looking at 72x40x18. A shelf is the cheapest, easiest way to add floor space to a cage plus snakes love the height. And you can see there is plenty of room. The first cage is my 7' retic, second is 5.5' sunglow bci and third is 6.5' Colombian bci.

Where are you going to keep your retic when it reaches its full adult size?

My retic is a super dwarf/dwarf. He's 37.5% super dwarf, 31.5% dwarf and 31% mainland. Kris over at Vital Exotics said he should top out around 7' which is what he is at now but I'm going to guess he will top out at 10' which in that case, I will be ordering an Animal Plastics T65(96x30x18) loaded like all my other cages.

He's just over 1.3 years old right now. He was born May 18th 2016.

There is no such thing as a BCC kahl line. There is no morphs to BCC, only localities. Now if the breeder bred an albino BCI into a BCC and then bred the babies back to the BCI to add BCC into it to give it more color. But thats still a BCI cross. And most purists, myself included, frown upon ruining a BCC by cross breeding it.
