Hissing.
So awhile ago I picked up a new guy for my collection and all has been good. He's been eating pooping and generally acting like a BP, ie out at night and balling up when I handle him. You know just acting like a timid snake. Well two weeks ago when I fed him he struck several times, defensive strikes, then eventually ate the rat. Last feeding day he refused and he's been eating like a champ and I know that he'll eat when hungry. Well a couple days later I did a bedding change on all my enclosures over to bioearth coconut husk. While I was changing out my other snakes stuff he started hissing, not weezing or anything indicating some illness but hissing as in empting his lungs in a short burst resulting in a hiss. I'm pretty sure he was stressed from the change and I think he might be better suited for a rack, as that was how the breeder had him, he was a 2015 hold back.
Originally I was writing to get some help, but now that I think of it I'm pretty sure I need to block off the sides of his enclosure and give him some additional coverage inside. I think he's just a high strung guy and I need to accommodate for that. Oh and his temps 80 average on low 88 on high hot spot 90 and humidity is about 50 on average. What do you guys think am I on point with giving him extra security?

Sounds like a plan. I hate dealing with the "sensitive" ones. I work very hard with my babies in order to try to prevent this.
Honest, I only need one more ...

Re: Hissing.
Yeah I've only had him a little more than a month or so I'm just getting to know his temperament. I wish he was like my big girl who is inquisitive and dosil, but on the other hand he is a way better eater.

Kinda amazing how varied a BP's temperament can be, mine's deep in blue currently and I took him out to get pics and he didn't huff or even ball up. Just wanted to ride my neck around like usual and protested at being put back in his enclosure (he likes grabbing the edge of the tank on his way in and clinging to it).
Good luck with yours, sounds like you got a shrinking violet.

Re: Hissing.
Yeah he's a beautiful snake but it seems he's also a bit of a drama queen. Your guy sounds like my RTB, he loves being out and is constantly on the verge of choking me out when I don't pay attention and he gets all the way around my neck.
