Need help moving from Kansas City to cali
So my wife got a new job in California so we are making the move. This is going to be a 3 day drive across country and I'm really not sure what to do. Are there any breeders in the area who might be able to hold on to him then ship him to me when I get there. He is 3 year old male pastel

Looking for help with ling distance move
So I'm looking for someone else in the Kansas City area to help me look after my ball python for awhile. My wife has gotten a new job so we are having to drive across the country to a no house situation. I don't really know how I would drive with him for 3 days if anyone can help or has suggestions let me know

I mean you can make the drive with him, just don't freeze the car. That or get a few heat packs and put him in a large sterilite container with bedding and then put it in a box with a heat pack and close it, something to keep it in the mid 70's to 80's. I would bring some water and a bowl to let him drink about midways there, other than that he'll be fine. Some of these people that take snakes to shows to sell have them in those containers 3-5 days, depending on how far they drive.

I drove from Ohio back to Arizona w 3 bps, a boa and 8 geckos, 2 dragons, 3 ferrets, 3 cats and 2 dogs... and 2 rotten teens...my snakes were in snake bags/pillow cases for trip..it was winter. So we used hand warmer heat packs. The bags w snakes were in rubber maids w holes for air...

I adapted a sterilite container by taping a heat pad on the bottom on one side. Plug that into a rheostat, then a cigarette lighter power inverter. MAKE SURE you find the appropriate adjustment on the rheostat, then mark the rheostat in case it gets knocked somehow. Use a digital thermometer gun to check your temps. I have also left my snake's 2 hides in, which are plastic dog bowls. In theory, they could hurt your snake if they flew around violently, but I've found with paper towel substrate that even in more intense braking situations, the snake and the hide will just glide forward gently if there is a lot of room. You could even go smaller to prevent that, I just brought my snake's living arrangement... Also, if you stop at night you can put the water bowl back in. And make sure your snake hasn't eaten, but you probably are well versed with this idea. More complex than other successful transports but just in case you wanted another idea 😉

You can always purchase some shipping boxes from Ship Your Reptiles, along with some heat packs (if needed - check temps along the way). The boxes are insulated and will help keep the temp steady. Pack the animals up as if you're shipping them, and they should be fine.

One good option is to leave the snake with a friend until you get settled in, and then have it shipped to you at your new address. If you decide to ship your snake, go to ShipYourReptiles.com and sign up for an account. You can order shipping supplies and get detailed instructions on how to ship at the ShipYourReptiles website. When you are ready to book your shipment, use discount code BPnet40 to save 40% off of the shipment.

Re: Need help moving from Kansas City to cali
I think the shipping arrangement is the safest and most efficient choice, but a multi-day drive is also possible.
As suggested, pack up the snake(s) as if you are shipping it. Insulated box, four ventilation holes, snake bag and packing material inside (so it doesn't bounce around, but also to absorb any waste).
One thing to use GREAT CAUTION ON is the suggested heat packs. If you are doing this drive in the summer, there is NO NEED for heat packs. You are courting snake death to use those for car transport at this time. It is already warm throughout the country. Your snake can deal with cool temperatures much better than it can deal with hot temps. Keeping the insulated box closed during the day will keep it pretty temperate already, and that is what you want. Don't leave the box in direct sunlight, or inside a parked car. Don't put it in front of the heat/cool vent, just keep it at room/comfortable temp, including in your hotel/overnight room. Trying to apply some "reptile heat" is just a recipe for disaster.
If you are traveling during cold winter days, parameters change a bit, but for a summer trip, overheating is going to be your number one concern.
Consider overnight shipping. You can provide a friend with the packaging and supplies, AND the preprinted label, and then can send it Priority Overnight to you once you arrive at your destination. Super fast and easy.
