Evening, friends!
I know you can all attest to how easily BP love blossoms after acquiring your first babu. We've only had our boy for appx. 4 months now, but there's already talk of a new addition to the family sometime next year. Monty is (and I'm not just saying this as a biased scale mom) literally the best snake in every aspect for us as noobs. He's never missed a meal (eating frozen/thawed with no probing), handles like a gem, and had a nearly perfect first shed last month. He's currently in a 20 gallon setup that we purchased from the same reptile expo where we found him. It's glass with a mesh screen(3/4 covered with a plexiglass cutout) and locks on the top. Just your standard "beginner" tank with some additional supplies we purchased to provide the best care possible.
I say all that because I would love to repurpose a furniture piece as a dual BP enclosure in the future. I just love the aesthetics, and I want my family, friends, and guests to learn to love and/or respect them as much as I do. What I worry about is finding and/or creating a piece that provides adequate space/ventilation/humidity and also wiring heat or lights in this kind of display.
I'm obviously NO EXPERT with BPs or custom designs, but I have big dreams! I know that people custom make vivariums at those reptile expos, but I don't wanna break the bank on that kind of purchase or this project in general. Just want to gather as much information over the next year to get this up and running, hopefully.
Another worry of mine is that another BP could effect the behavior or attitude of our little dude, even though we'd most likely get another male and they'd be separated. We've had such success that the thought of a new BP having the complete opposite demeanor is scary. Anyone who has multiple BPs, we'd love to hear your thoughts/experiences. Also, if there are experts (which I know there's a least a few) on DIY enclosures/best equipment we'd love photos, advice, links, price ranges, etc. Sorry to babble my loves, here's a picture of our Monty as a peace offering for a late night rambling.
Thank you all for reading!
