K, unlike my usual chapter book rambling posts, I'm going to make this short(sorry Blink...I know you're a fan of those long posts of mine ).

Tonight I noticed Pelota was all over her cage exploring. This is unusual for her, so I figured she was gonna be leaving me a nice present. I opened the tank to get her out for the usual handling session, but had to take a step back as the sweet aroma hit me. I found a nice pile of p00 in the corner of the cage. Thing is, it's not the usual log she leaves me. This was a pile of softer p00 than usual. Not runny, but soft...like soft serve ice cream maybe(yum!). Is this anything to worry about? I've been weary of using the mice from that dang pet store in town...afraid of parasites and stuff. Is this a sign of parasites or any health problems? Or is it just fine?

    Sleeps.

She isn't too outgoing, bp wise. It's just been recently that she's been more active and snaking around her cage. Up until now I'd always find her in her hide...she's a lazy lil thing.

    Hey Cody,

Loose stools can be a sign of GI parasites. I would recommend a fecal if Pelota's next bowel movement is also loose. GI parasites is a possibility if you have been feeding p/k.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though unless the next bowel movement is loose also.

Probly nothing to worry about ..
but just another reason to feed frozen thawed ... just about every mouse out there ..or rat has pin worms or other various parasites that can be transfered via consumtion..

I do feed her frozen thawed. Always have. Even when I had to buy live mice and kill them myself, I froze them good rather than feeding them to her fresh killed. Thing is, I remember hearing that the parasites won't be killed off in the freezing process unless they're frozen for atleast a week or something. If this isn't the case, and they die right away when frozen, then I guess I wouldn't have to worry about parasites from the mice.

I assumed it's nothing to worry about, but wanted to make sure. If her next one is a soft p00 I think I'll bring her in for a fecal. She's long overdo for a general checkup anyway.

I am not sure what parasites survive ... but it is reccomended that they be frozen for atleast 2-3 weeks prior to feeding

Yeah, that's what I thought. Well from now on I'm ordering my rodents from mice4you.com as it'll be much more safer than the crappy pet store I get my rodents from now. I'll also be watching for her next bm, and I think I'll try and get a fecal done finally.

    Thanks for the help everyone.
