Follicle, ovulation, and egg laying question.

I have four females that I think are building or getting ready to lay. I witnessed one ovulation for sure and she had her prelay she'd right on schedule. Now I know about 30 days to wait. I am thinking I missed an ovulation on another girl because she has what feels like 7 big, almost chicken egg size, eggs I am feeling. Do they all have a prelay shed? She looks fat, so maybe this is ovulation, or could she be ready to drop? I know you can't really tell without seeing her in person, so I guess the question really is could she have not done a prelay shed and then lay eggs?

As far as I have ever seen they always have a pre-lay shed.

Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.

Every female that has ever produced a clutch for me has had a pre-lay shed. Ovulations may be tricky to catch sometimes. I don't always witness an ovulation, but I typically check follicle growth and wait for the pre-lay shed...followed by staying on the warm spot :-)

    Eggs

How big are eggs at ovulation on average?

If she's ovulating she'll feel like a hard water balloon. I've never had or heard of skipping a prelay shed so I'd not get too excited about eggs soon. They can seem huge for a while but I'd still wait for a shed to start any count downs. I'm guessing you do have an incubator dialed in and boxes ready for the other ones just in case.

Re: Follicle, ovulation, and egg laying question.

Incubator is up and running. Been checking temps on it twice a day for three weeks now. 87.5-88.5 each time which seems good to me. Been using my heat fun to check as all the thermometers have different readings. I can't find one that I think is good. Any suggestions?

I don't really have a great suggestion. I just use a few kinds that are usually about $10-$15 then I compare with a heat gun too. They're usually all within a degree of eachother
