Can my snake see red light?

The other day, I turned my lamp on before nighttime, to warm things up as the temperature drops, however I saw her flinch, like pull her head back a bit. I was told they can't see that color light, so why would she react this way if she can't see it? Could it be that she suddenly senses the warm bulb with her heat pits? (She was looking in that general direction).

Does anyone know if they really can or can't?

Some people say they can, some say they can't... Which is why most people recommend CHE (ceramic heat emitters) rather than the red heat bulbs. They're bulbs that only give off heat, not light.

Has anybody ever measured the heat coming off the che itself? They're hotter than an oven? I measured over 600 degrees at the base, how's that not zapping humidity??

CHEs do dry out a tank pretty fast and it can be hard to keep humidity stable when using one. I DIYed a household humidifier to keep mine where I want it, but I don't think it'll work for everyone.

Yeah as far as I can tell the jury's still out on what snakes' color vision range is, since it's kinda hard to ask them and all. Maybe there's a site with some more in-depth research, but I haven't found it yet.

The only downside to the Che for me is that yes it seems to enjoy killing water particles in the air. however when my infrared bulb blew up and shot glass everywhere I decided I would rather put a little more effort into humidity upkeep than risk that again. Che's are much higher quality and last a lot longer. I just put mine on a high wattage dimmer, and keep a moist wash cloth in a corner that I change out every other day and the humidity is perfect. Don't even need to spray with the cloth in there.

Myself, I would recommend the Che, especially if the red bulb is a lingering bother.

Using red lights longer than I care to remember. Besides from an occasional one that burns out early, I can't remember ever having a problem with them.

I dong know about the IR bulbs, but mine seem to notice the red laser from the temp gun if that's any indication.
