    Ball python health?

    Evening. Long post here.
so I've adopted a 5 year old bp the other day. At first I wasn't going to because he didn't look so well but I just had to for that fact.
His skin was so dry that he had dry spots, he has retained eye caps. His tank had rabbit shavings with no heat, 4 sets of poops in it and his water bowl was filled with slime.
In the last 48 hours being at my place he drank quite a bit of water and soaked in his bowl. His dry spots have disappeared and he's finally darker and has colour. His eye caps are starting to crack showing a little of the black. I purchased a new and proper tank for him as of today, pretty active exploring.
my biggest concern now is his breathing. He whistles when I handled him but not when he's in the tank. Is this RI? What do I need to know and how to handle this? Also what can I do to help with his eye caps?

I would take a q tip wet it with water and rub it on his eye caps gently the eye caps will come off no problem. Since he's making a whistle sound and he has a bad shed I would assume there is stuck skin in his nostrils. Do the same with a q tip, rub it on his nose and see if the whistle goes away. If the whistle persists and he has an RI look up remedies for that. Good luck and hope it's just bad shed
