which one :: herp stat or vivarium electronics?

hey, i need to buy a new thermostat for my ball python, and fast.
i don't want to go for the cheap one this time, i can't risk my thermostats failing/frying again.
    so here is my question:
i need two probes because the tub has two heat pads, one for each side (it gets very cold in the winter)

which one is better, the herpstat 2 or the vivarium electronics VE-300X2?
same price, just want to know your experiences.

I vote Herpstat. I've never used the VE, but I've had less than stellar customer service experience with Reptile Basics for other products. Spyder Robotics customer service is excellent.

thank you so much. and just to confirm (don't want to mess anything up) since i have two seperate heat pads, i do need two probes right?
so a herpstat 1 would not work.

herpstat 2 is the better choice?
    just want some reassurance.

Most likely the answer is yes, you'd want a Herpstat 2, but just to make sure, can you describe your setup?

i have him in a large tub. two hides, water bowl in the middle.
each side has a heat pad bc it gets cold in the winter, but the cold side pad is set to a lower temperature.
so two heat pads, and i was using two seperate thermostats and each one had a probe
temps were great but then they got fried...probes were in between the tub and heat pad of each side.

I have 5 Herpstats, so you know my vote. But I will say that a lot of people prefer VE for racks. I forgot the reason.

I am assuming that those two pads are set for different temps? If so, then yes you need a H2.

If for some reason both of your pads were always the same temp AND exactly alike as far as size and wattage, then you could use an H1.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Yes, you want the Herpstat 2 in that case so you can set the mats to different temps. I had a similar setup at one time.

I have both. Started with a ve200 and about 6 months ago got a 2nd rack and bought a herpstat 2 to control both. personally I like the herpstat better but the ve is still good just preference. gonna use the ve for an incubator. I'm pretty sure the ve 300 has built in night drop but my 200 doesn't. If I wanted to use it I'd have to buy the night drop module for ve stats and also buy a plug in timer for it and I'm pretty sure all herpstat have built in night drop.

I have a VE on a small incubator for colubrids eggs, however everything else is Herpstat and I prefer them, some have been running for 10+ years now.
