Moving Nox to a bigger Viv - is it too big?
Hi guys, Nox is growing slowly but steadily She's reached about 60cm and 200g at around 6 months old. Not a giant, but she's healthy so that's all that matters to me.
In the next month or two I'm planning on getting either a beardy or a blue tongued skink. The problem is, they use bigger Vivs - been told by numerous people 4 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot is required, bigger being even better.
Now I only have a 5 foot wide space, and about 18 inches deep is preferred but can stretch to 2 foot at a push.
My question is, would a 70 cm BP ( hoping she grows before I get the tanks ) be stressed in a 5 x 2 x 2 viv ? Obviously I'd have to put in more hides, thinking one every other foot or so to keep it spaced nicely for heat too.
Would this be an issue? The other option is to block off a section to make the viv a size that I need it, then expand it as she grows - is that an okay thing to do?
The fact its now 2 foot high is a bit annoying, cause BPs wont use it all, so I might build like an L shaped "ramp" almost, so she can go up and the bottom becomes a hide too
The reason I'd get two of the same size is so that they stack securely, otherwise I'd get two different sized ones :S
What do you guys think? Am I counting my chickens before they can run? ( weird expression )

I think it can be done, it just takes more work to make sure the snake feels secure. I've used larger vivs myself with no problems. The only living beings that suffer from any kind if stress are SOME tub keepers who disagree. Tubs work and are very efficient but that doesn't mean other methods don't work as well. My snakes do great in larger enclosures.

Totally agree !
Fill it with branches and fake foliage and they are nice and calm , eat voraciously and will spend hours most evenings climbing in the branches.

Big open housing can be stressful, but there's no reason it has to be open. Just put a ton of hides.

I think making the animal feel secure will be easy enough to accomplish. The enclosure being 2 feet high might make keeping proper humidity levels challenging depending where you live and how much the enclosure has to be heated.

Are there certain types of foliage and branches to get or just whatever the store has? I'm in the same boat and will be moving up to a T8 4'x2'x'1 before I was really ready to because of better heating. I have three hides ready 2 the same size and 1 large. Trying to plan on what else to get.

Are you buying the vivs or building them?
