A new way to convert a mouser to rat?? maybe??

I was thinking bout maybe tight a rat's tail with a mouse's tail and offer to the snake maybe he would strike at the mouse and eventually eat the rat as well. Any thoughts?

You don't have to do any tying, just feed an undersized mouse and offer the rat as soon as they've swallowed the mouse.

But if he's only interested in eating mouse how is he gonna eat the rat after he swallowed the mouse?

Usually they're in feed mode at that point and don't really care what they're eating because their instincts have been activated.

You can also try "train feeding". Get a mouse and a rat whose combined weight is an appropriate size meal. Feed the mouse first. As the mouse's hind legs are disappearing sneak the rat's nose into the snake's mouth. The snake should just latch on and keep swallowing. It takes practice and a steady hand with the feeding tongs but it does work.

Buddy of mine swears by it. My technique is a little different. Feed what the snake is used to (mice) until it hits a shed cycle. Skip that feeding, even if they would normally eat during a shed, or they've finished shedding by feeding day. Offer them the new prey item while they're on empty on the week after. Scent it with a mouse (by rubbing the rat feeder with a mouse F/T or dirty mouse bedding) for better success.
