So I acquired my first BP this week... a little unexpectedly, but its all good. So some backstory - I've had a Corn for a while now, and had been doing some research on Balls, and was planning on getting one in Daytona in August.

I work for the local Fire Department, and one of our stations went on a call for a lady who was losing her mind about the "Giant Boa" in her apartment. When I walk into work later that morning the first thing my supervisor says to me (knowing Im the "snake girl") is "Station 42 has a Boa, you should take it!"... Well, I was skeptical it was a Boa anyway, so I texted the station for pictures, and said that I wasn't interested if it was indeed a Boa, a Burm, or a Retic (not that Ive got the permits for the last 2 anyway), but if it happened to be a ball python (yeah, right), that Id consider it.... sure enough, pictures roll in and this is what I see...



And come to find out, if I didn't take her FWC was going to come and destroy her... So, I said Id take her. *Sigh*... Shes a pretty little thing. She had some pretty bad stuck shed and she is SKINNYYYY, but we're working on getting that shed off, and she ate like a horse for me the other night, so I think we're on the right track. She might be the sweetest thing ever, very inquisitive and doesn't have any problems hanging all over me. She doesn't have a name yet, still trying to figure out what fits her, but Im thrilled that I could add this little goober to the family.

What a great story, if thats not fate, i dont know what is.
Tell you what, she may have been eccentric and bad at ID'ing, but I'm glad the old lady called the FD instead of taking a bat to the poor thing. Lord knows there are some people who wouldn't hesitate. Tame but skinny with stuck shed; i wonder how long ago it escaped, or if it was "released" by its former owner
Anyway, congratulations are in order to you and the lucky snake (you should name it Boa )

That's pretty typical with people not having any idea what animals actually are and mentally upsizing them. Especially with snakes they tend to claim they are MUCH larger than reality.

My wife's parents do volunteer wildlife rehab and they get calls all the time to rescue "eagles" that turn out to be pretty much every sort of ordinary small bird.
