    Where to put thermostat probe

Hello, right now I have my thermostat probe inside my ball pythons hide on top of the heating pad but I am constantly having to move the prob back into place under the substrate because when he goes in his hide my moves it. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? People say you should have the probe on the outside of the cage directly on the heat source but I don't see how this would work because the heating pad is sticked directly on the glass so does the back of it get as hot as the front of it where it is on the glass?
    Thanks

I have my probe stuck to the mat with a little bit of blu-tack, on the wire. Never had any problems. Just replace the blu-tack if it gets wet/dirty.

Is that safe to use in the enclosure?

I couldn't find anything about it, and I've never had any problems.

T-stat probe should be OUTSIDE the enclosure between the enclosure and the heat source, never inside.

Why should it be outside? I've never had a problem (Of course, I'm not assuming that other people won't have a problem, just saying I haven't ) with having the probe inside.

Your thermostat controls the heat source.
Your temp gun helps you adjust to the correct surface temperature under your substrat inside the enclosure.

Re: Where to put thermostat probe

I run two probes. 1 goes to the uth on the outside that is connected to the thermostat to control pad temperature and the other is inside under the substrate to see what the temperature is on the inside.

If I had it this way I would have to remove my heating pad from the glass put my probe there then restick it to the glass but if I did that it probably wouldn't stick properly again. Does the non-stick side of the heating pad get as hot as the sticky side?

The reason you don't want the probe inside is if the snake moves it away from the heat source, your tstat is going to compensate by throwing more power. You'll end up burning your snake if you're lucky, killing it if you're a little less lucky, or burning the house down on a bad day. If you attach it to the heat source on the outside, where it can't be moved, then you can adjust the tstat until you have the temps you require on the inside.
