Not every snake species has spurs, and even in the ones that do, they can be easily damaged or broken off. Color and size can ply a factor too; sometimes they just blend in and aren't super obvious. All of my snakes have their spurs.

The really cool thing about the spurs is that they can move them. The male will use them to stimulate the female.

Re: Is this healthy baby BP vent?
The spurs can come off occasionally, but other than that, all ball pythons have them although size can vary. Corn snakes and other colubrids do not.

Re: Is this healthy baby BP vent?
Weirdly for my collection I've noticed that all of my females have big spurs where as my males have very small spurs! In fact my big pastel yellow belly het clown doesn't appear to have any and he proved out this season and my female is gravid from him! It just freaks me out that all my males have little to no spurs! O.o

They tend to extend when mating. They are larger than they appear.

Yeah - most of what we see as the spurs are various layers from previous sheds - the actual spur is tiny and white.
But I have females with far longer spurs than my males - like Salome's.

She is quite an old girl now.
