    But....

It's been set up for a few hours, but the temps are only 81 and 75. The heat pad is on low. I am wondering if the holes are too big, I don't remember what size drill bit I used, they are smaller than 1/4". I have 30 of those sized holes on one long side, and 20 holes on the other long side. There are 12 holes of the same size on each short end. I am thinking here are too many holes... But we have such high humidity here (in the house it's 60% without doing anything) that I believe that many holes are needed. Ya'll just let me know what you think is best. If I need to buy another rubbermaid and start over, it's cool. Hopefully I can get it all figured out tomorrow. Goofy thing.

Well, the thing with too many holes is...there can't be too many holes. If you find there are too many open holes to keep heat or humidity in, just tape some holes up. It might not look the prettiest, but hey, when you're using rubbermaid/sterilite caging, you're probably not going for the aestethics right?

You know, I am having the same problem with my rubbermiad set up. Great for humdity, but a b***h when it comes to getting it to the right temps. The plastic just doesn't conduct heat like the glass did. It is getting really aggrivating.

You might want to change the temp setting on your heating pad, or reduce the gap between it and the enclosure. That is more holes than I usually make, but not by a lot, so I doubt that's entirely the problem with your temps.

I'd say try to up the setting on your heating pad. It should get those temps up, and if not then i'd mess with the gap inbetween.

This morning I checked it and hot side is 88 and cool side is 72... Why it's 72 I don't know. It's 75 in our house. Weird. Maybe the battery that came with the thermo wasn't good. I might try changing it and see what it does. And right now, there isn't a gap between. I didn't have anything to prop it up with last night, but I do today. I'm going to see if Petco has a thermostat today. I looked at Petsmart and all they had was a rheostat that cost an arm and a leg. So we'll see.

Also, where do ya'll place your thermos? Mine is in the bottom right hand corner of one long side, stuck on with velcro to the side. Should I ditch the velcro and just lay it on the floor of the enclosure?

Thanks for helping me, ya'll are great

i have mine propped against the corner in the cool side and the probe inside of the warm hide. that seems to be accurate enough for me.

and i would recommend getting a thermostat (no rheostat-they work differently, and in my opinion not as well). that should take care of your temperature issues altogether. if it is still too cold on the cool side after hooking a thermostat up to your heating pad them you could add a heat lamp or something, but it might not be neccesary. or you could put another thermostat regulated heat pad under the cool side to avoid lamps and their negative affect on humidity.

    Well anywho, here's an update...
My temps are: hot side 84 and cool side 80. It's getting there.
I didn't get my girl this past Thursday because PayPal was being a big ol' turd. I talked to Don and he received the money so I will get her on this coming Thursday.
I am also thinking about naming her Amani, it means "wishes" in Arabic. I know she's not from any place that speaks arabic, but it's a pretty name.

Here are a few other names I have picked out:
    1. Naamah- "sweetness" in Hebrew
    2. Avani- "earth" in Sanskrit
    3. Devi- "goddess" in Sanskrit
    4. Kalani- "the heavens" in Hawaiian
    5. Abeni- "we asked for her, and behold, we got her" in Yoruba from Africa
    6. Oriana- "gold" from medieval Spanish
    7. Vosgi- "gold" in Armenian
    8. Nila- "dark blue" in Sanskrit
    9. Lind
    10. Zarina- "golden" from Africa

Hopefully ya'll cam give some input on why my enclosure in being a PITA and give some input on the names I've picked out. Thanks a bunch

All those names sound really good. I just think it's kinda odd to name a ball "the heavens", when they stay so close to the ground. I like the sound of Nila, but as far as I know there is no such thing as a blue ball python (Wouldn't that be gorgeous.)
