Has anyone ever had a dud female?
A couple weeks ago, my female looked big and I swore she must have already built follicles or ovulated already. I paired her then as well. But now, the last 1/3 of her looks thin and totally normal again. So I have no idea what is going on here, or if my female is a dud? I bought her as a proven female, but the price was VERY good, so now I'm wondering whether I got duped LOL.
eta: for some background, I've been pairing her and she has been locking about every 3~4 weeks since November 2016

Re: Has anyone ever had a dud female?
Females ovulate when their bodies are ready. Perhaps she has had multiple clutches in a row and just taking some time off. I had a female lay for the time time then take the next year off. Female pretty much do what they want. Just make sure temps are correct and she is eating and gaining weight. Also they usually ovulate the same time every year.

I see, thanks. Perhaps she might be skipping this year then, because I was told her last clutch was laid in May 2016.

They will if they haven't gained their weight back and then some. I would just keep feeding her and try pairing her. Next year she will be ready to go and nice and fat for you.

She's about 2100g, so it should have been a good weight and looks to be in good body condition for breeding... That's too bad if she skips this year! She's my only snake that refuses to switch to f/t, and as I don't breed rats, I was not planning on keeping her long-term.

Just hang in there. I've been reading your posts and you sound super excited and over analytical like I was last year with my first pairing. I was seeing signs left and right and wondering 'what/when/come on!' I started pairing 12/7/15 and tons of locks, tons of what I saw as signs, she ended up not laying eggs until September 2016. Your girl may skip this year like mentioned above but she may go, they are locking and things sound good. Just hang in there and remember - patience young padawan. heehee! I am hoping you get a nice clutch

Is she displaying any other signs that she ovulated? Been off of food for a while? Recent shed and staying coiled on hot side? I notice a week or 2 before laying a couple of my females have seemed "normal" looking and shrunk back down but they still lay. My recent pied clutch was one I was waiting on forever so I checked her constantly and still somehow missed an obvious ovulation.
