    Completely New!! Questions & Help?

    Hi all,

I'm considering getting a BP as a pet. I have never had snakes, and wanted to do extensive research before I bought or even looked at breeders, stores, etc.

I'm slowly gathering everything I would need for a terrarium. Does anyone have any specific tips on the care and upkeep of BPs? I don't want to get into this unless I am able to provide the best care possible.

    Thanks

    M

Check this out and make sure you can provide the requirements. I discourage keeping these animals in terrariums. If viewing pleasure is of a high concern for you a ball may not be the right pet. They like to hide and very rarely do much of anything. Think a pet rock that you have to feed.

thank you for the quick response - is the term tank better? not looking for a showcase pet, but one I can take care of well. That's my main priority.

It's not the term it is the actual storage. Many if not most ball python owners will keep them in plastic tubs. The tubs make it easier to provide the conditions that work well for the animal. Many of us on here have many animals kept in tubs in racks. The glass type enclosures are hard to maintain if you already don't have experience. I advise waiting to do tanks until you can keep an animal in a tub comfortably. Also, tub setups are generally much cheaper.

Here's a tub setup guide- if you follow this and get all the equipment, you won't go wrong. This is the guide I followed for my first BP (I had never had a snake before then either) to make things easier.
