snake room smell
question for the breeders, how do you guys control the smell in the snake room?

1) Clean often, including taking out the trash.
2) UVC air filter/purifier.

Ionic Breeze. The one i have had for 10 years just broke. Have to get another one. I forgot how effective it was until it broke. I clean all the time but during breeding season it can get stinky fast.

I only have 12 snakes in my snake room but it can get smelly depending on substrate I found out. The room never smelled while I was using reptichip. I thought it was because I stayed on top of spot cleaning but when I switched to paper towels I could not control the smell. It literally smelled all the time. I only switched to the paper towels because a new snake I got had mites so I wanted to make sure they didn't have hiding spots and spread while I was treating. Man am I glad to be back to the reptichip, within a week smell is gone. I'm still amazed what a difference it makes, worth every penny!

Smell? What smell?
I use a paper towel/newspaper combo in my tubs and cypress in my terrarium, I clean whenever they leave a mess (full substrate change and wipedown for the tubs, immediate spot clean for the cypress and monthly teardown for the terrarium), and I put the waste in ziplock bags and empty the trash often. No smell and no fancy air filters needed.
Now if anyone knows how to prevent mice from creating a godawful stench every week I'm all ears.

Though my family tells me there is sometimes a strong smell, but I can't smell anything! Shame on them for calling my snakes smelly.

When I bred feeders I'd put vanilla in the water, it helped cut down on the smell.

Re: snake room smell
I only have two snakes right now but mine don't stink at all. I check them every morning and every night for messes. If they mess the entire sheet of paper is removed, tank cleaned with disinfectant wipes, dried and put back together. Once a month I do a major tear down and disinfect everything with chlorahexadine. Never had any smells at all.

Re: snake room smell
They do have a slight snakey odor but I kind of like it. It's like a musky odor.
