    Are BPs just that efficient?

I've had Smaug for just over two weeks now, and he still hasn't defecated (or passed any urates/liquid waste that I have noticed- the viv smells perfectly fresh and I've not seen anything, though I've not done a full substrate change yet).

He did copious amounts of both in his little box when he was being transported (poor thing, can't have been nice sitting in it) and I've fed him thrice since then. I'm feeding every 5 days and the first two meals I gave him were on the small side (he'd been on rat pinkies with the breeder so I wanted to carry on with those for a couple of feedings until I was sure he was a good eater).
Yesterday I fed him a rat fuzzy for the first time, so quite a lot has gone in- when can I expect anything out? XD

Not complaining about the lack of snake excrement- the stuff in the travelling box was vile- but I'm starting to get a tad concerned now. I was under the impression that they went more or less weekly.

    Poopy patrol

I have kept my snakes on Cypress mulch, and their poop is exactly the same color. The shape is more like a log than a shaving. Mostly their poopy is pretty dry, so it doesn't smell. Their urate (this is spelled right not sure why it's underlined) are bright white, also dry, and very easy to identify. I do poopy patrol every day, and you would be surprised how often they will defecate or urate inside their hidey huts. Dogs don't do it, but snakes don't care.
Mine are on a pretty regular once a week feeding, but I only see their excrement about every week and a half or two weeks.
    They are very efficient!

I've not seen anything inside his hides, could it be because his earlier meals were on the small side? Guess I'll just have to keep watching and waiting!

And it's interesting that your snakes' excretions are dry enough not to smell, the one Smaug did on the way to my house was pretty revolting! XD Maybe he let it go a bit early from the stress of transport.

No worries, he will go when he needs to. It could be up to a month or longer LOL.

If it makes you feel better, my adults can hold it up to 3 months.

Re: Are BPs just that efficient?

My girl always manage to stick it on her hides walls making it hard to spot... Usually every week and usually without any smell, until this week. Uhh it smelled so terrible and it wasn't as dry as she usually does, although it was somewhat firm it was more squishy.

Because the prey offered until now have been very small, there is very little to be eliminated as most if not all are utilize for growth.

What is the current weight of your BP?

He was 189g when he arrived 2 weeks ago, I've not weighed him since because I was going to do it after he eliminated each time (so I could get the empty weight).

Re: Are BPs just that efficient?

This BP is underfed, severely underfed if the breeder was offering rat pinks to an animal that size.

At this size your BP can handle a rat pup.

To give you an idea out of the egg the can take a small rat fuzzy (crawler)

Underfed means nothing is left to be eliminated, everything is used for vital functions and growth.

Glad I upped his size then :s poor thing. The fuzzy rats he are currently eating are good on the "size= largest part of the snake" rule and the 10-15% of the weight, so I would assume they are good to continue with?

I was starting to think he'd had a rough start with the full-body stuck shed he got almost immediately after I acquired him and the fact that the breeder mixed the photos of the male and female up, so this isn't the snake I actually ordered. (I fell in love with him as soon as I got him out the box though, so couldn't bring myself to exchange).

Wish I'd given him the bigger ones to start with. Anything I need to watch for/do other than continue with the bigger prey every 5 days?

(I may be using the terminology incorrectly and the ones I have just started him on may be something other than fuzzies/crawlers, this is my first snake and I just asked for them by weight. The ones he was on were def the hairless pinks/pups though)
