I have kept my snakes on Cypress mulch, and their poop is exactly the same color. The shape is more like a log than a shaving. Mostly their poopy is pretty dry, so it doesn't smell. Their urate (this is spelled right not sure why it's underlined) are bright white, also dry, and very easy to identify. I do poopy patrol every day, and you would be surprised how often they will defecate or urate inside their hidey huts. Dogs don't do it, but snakes don't care.
Mine are on a pretty regular once a week feeding, but I only see their excrement about every week and a half or two weeks.
They are very efficient!
