I have seen this artist before. They do incredible work. I really like when he turns the picture and you see how distorted he has to draw it to make it look 3D. For the life of me I can not imagine how they figure you how to do this.

Lot's of math, perfect camera angle, and a whole lot of talent.

You think some sort of mathematical process is used? It really doesn't look like he spends much time laying things out in an exact fashion, no rulers or compass, and just kind of sketches it out. I tend to think that people that are good at art are not good at math, but it is totally a bias as I suck at classical art. I definitely agree with the last two, especially the last part.

I'm thinking it is a little like "magic" kind of like how they employed magicians during WWII to make things appear real that were not. The math could also all be subconscious like a basketball player that can consistently shoot 3 pointers.

Ah, I got you. It is probably similar to how an artist looks at what they want to draw and in their mind breaks things up into smaller shapes. On the other had when I look at the same object and see an incredibly complicated object that would be impossible to draw.

I know thats way out there, but could he be looking at a mirror that is mounted in the same spot and at the same angle then the camera? At least for reference ??
