I think it's all about putting the time in and learning to recognize your animal's body language. That's really all you have to go on. I have a female ball python that acts like she enjoys being handled. She is very relaxed and and will let you touch her head. She appears to be very trusting to a point. But she def lets you know when she is done being handled so I end it there and put her up. They are all different.
