Good, sounds like the job won't be too big.

Dimensions are 4ft×2ft×2.5ft on inside. Will have to line with plastic due to inside being that paper stuff on back of dressers. Only metal is brass doors and gliders and fake air holes. Will have to seal a few spots and close all gaps around doors. Awesome project to start on.

Won't the brass on the doors corrode from the humidity ?

I guess if the doors gave you trouble you could always replace them with Plexi doors on hinges or add tracks and make sliding doors?

    COOL project !!

    Re: Fake fireplace set up

I see corrosion after a few weeks myself. But with silicone or hot glue, it may be protected. In theory anyhow

Is the flooring of the fireplace made of wood? How do you plan on heating the enclosure? I ask because it may be quite difficult to transfer heat through the wood if planning on using a UTH.

Interesting project, hope it turns out well. Good luck!

The inside is that paper stuff that is put behind dressers. I plan on putting in acrylic/glass bottom with 11 inch heat tape for hot spot and at least 100/150 watt overhead light. After setting up and what not, let run for a few days and work out kinks from there.

I'd take pics step by step and put it in the diy section. A lot of people could learn from your project as I'm also interested

    Re: Fake fireplace set up

I feel like all the trouble it will be worth to retrofit it, you might as well just start from scratch.

Looks like you will need quite a bit of modification.

That being said, you could put down some vinyl tiles. I've seen people do that with good results.

    Best of luck!
