    My snakes are deaf!

Did you know snakes are deaf? I just saw it on a documentary, they are totally deaf to sound waves in the air, they can only feel vibrations through their belly. So when you talk to your snake he can't hear you LOL. I actually was wondering about this, I had a skittish snake and was letting him roam around a bit and he ran into some plastic material that made a loud crinkling sound when he ran into it and crawled on it, but he didn't even flinch, like he was totally deaf LOL.

    Re: My snakes are deaf!

I became aware that snakes are deaf bout 3 moths after i started collecting them and by that time i had I beleive 7 ball pythons. Not long after I learned they where deaf I learned that they don't even see like we do or most other animals for that matter. From what I've been told and learned they basically see in heat vision, kind of like how a mosquito sees. I know this thread is like a year old but since there where no replies and I can still remember when I first learned this I just felt like I should reply xD. I've only been collecting for about a year and I have 15 ball pythons and I'm starting to build a rack to breed rodents. Hell of an addicting hobby for sure xD.

Yes, I knew, but I like nothing more but to watch the many great documentaries about snakes. So much info. They really are amazing animals.

Just gonna leave this here. My snakes have reacted to loud noises before, so I don't buy that they're deaf.

I knew long before I ever considered getting a snake. Whenever I tell my friends that my snake(s) cannot hear them, they're always really surprised.
