I want to start a pied breeding project.

Hello so i want to start making loads of nice pied combos but i seem to have trouble finding a male pied and i have only found pastel pied. would this be a good start or would there be less chances of getting other morphs from the off spring as there will be another gene.

    More genes more combos........

    What are your females?
Pied is recessive so unless the female is either Het or visual you will only produce Het Pieds.

There's no lack of pieds for sale depending on what you want to spend. Here's a male for $250:

Usually males are cheaper than females. When I started my pied project I picked up two females and one male, just straight pieds. Then as time went on I picked up some others, albino pied, fire pied, pinstripe pied, etc... Personally if I were to start over and do it again I'd start with one or more female pieds, they take longer to mature than males. And if you go with straight pieds you can pick them up cheap. Then get a high end male with another one or two genes to breed back to your females. Males only have to be about 1000 grams to breed and can breed up to four females per season.

Also, I've heard that high white pieds tend to produce high white pied babies (still variable though) so I'd go with as high of a white snake as you can get.

700-800g is fine for a male though some have bred as light as 400-500g
