Getting a male pied of a re homing site.

i have found on preloved which is a pet re homing site in the uk a 600g male pied medium white for £250 and was wondering if this would be a good deal. But some people say its not a good idea too get snakes of a re homing site because they could have mites and other problems. should i avoid or get it?

No idea what the conversion rate is as I'm in US.

While it's true some snakes are in rough shape from any kind of re-homing deal, some are in great shape and truly were/are loved but for whatever circumstance, they have to be re-homed. I wouldn't let that deter you. Just check the snake out before buying obviously. Bring a white paper towel or rag and run the snake through it while you are checking it out. That would give you a quick check for mites. Of course you are still going to want to quarantine it and personally, I would spray its cage down with PAM anyways for an initial treatment.

Provide us some pics for a better idea and we maybe able to give better advice....

    £250 = 315 in US Dollars

The average costs of each morph are different there too, so just converting it to USD won't show if it's a good deal there.

Whenever you buy or adopt a snake from an individual because they no longer can afford the animal, are tired of it or lost interest, there is always the risk that your good deal turns out to be an expensive lesson if tye animal whas not properly cared for.

So you can buy from a breeder or you can adopt it's up to YOU to decide what works for you and what risk you are willing to take.

$315 for a 600g male seems kind of expensive to me.

    Hi,

Not a bad price per se but not a startlingly good one either - get plenty of pics and info and be aware there are scammers out there.

I would check the current price on rfuk's for sale section to get a clearer picture of current pricing and see if there are any alternative/ similar animals from known good breeders with feeding histories etc.

If you have any current snakes then obviously good quarantine applies in either case.

I'm from the UK too, and i know a few breeders do put their stock on preloved and gumtree. And also £250 is a reasonably good price for a male pied, as I've seen females go for around £350. However, I wouldn't trust doing a payment plan on those sites as lots of things can go wrong.
I'd join some of the UK sale groups on facebook, especially the IHS Doncaster sales group, as many of the more reputable breeders put their babies on there, and you can pick it up on one of the shows if you wanted, or get it before hand by pickup or courier.
